Last night at a bar I was telling this asian guy about my trip and he told me he was jealous, and that "you only get to do this once". I thought it was a nice little piece of advice that would make a good title for this blog.

Need to summarise the past few days.

WHITE CASTLE Thank god I bought the bullet and chose data for my prepaid cap. Walking home from this bar at 3:30am, and I see A WHITE CASTLE. I nearly cried, it was so perfect. You don't even know.

JOHN
Staying with my friend John in Brooklyn. He does sound and lighting for film and television. His notables include Gossip Girl and The Goodwife. Him and his friends aspire to one day writing screenplays. One of his roommates is taking a course on it now. I'm gonna try to engage him on the subject to get some free film schooling. His friends, some of whom I met last night at this guy Frank's place, all seem work in the film industry in some capacity. They talk about film and television more than Christians talk about Jesus.

John has a genuine love of film and what he does. He's met all these celebrities and name-drops a lot. He hates John Kresinski with a passion--he says his character on the Office in no way reflects his personality. I really hope he's lying, because to me that guy represents all that is pure and good in the world. Hopefully he's just thinks he can get away with name-dropping if he calls the celebrity an asshole. Speaking of celebrity encounters, this guy Jacob in my delegation hung out with Aziz Ansari at a club in Manhattan. He said he was super awkward and not funny at all, but you know he's just mining you in his head, just waiting for you to do or say something stupid so he can put you into his act.

MEGABUS Megabus is a budget American bus company. My new plan is to use them to get to Louisiana. Apparently it's dirt cheap to bus outside of the tri-state area. John says he once rode from Texas to Tennessee on Megabus for a dollar. Next stop after Brooklyn is Washington DC. I met a person at the conference who said I can stay with them there for a few days.

TONIGHT
John does some bar work on the side and told me to come around to his bar around 8pm for some free drinks.

The new edition of OBITER is out today, or so facebook informs me. Included is an article I wrote about Julian Assange's 2013 election bid. It touches on the legal obstacles Australians may encounter when running for public office, but also on the diplomatic and constitutional implications of Assange becoming a politician. After I submitted the article, Assange released a statement that was consistent with my speculation as to his real motivations for running. USYD, UTS, UNSW, Macquarie, UWS, and UQ students, please pick up a copy from your campus law building. And remember to vote [1] above the line for Wikileaks in this year's election!
I've been sick with a cold for the last few days, so I haven't felt like posting much. I don't expect to return to full health any time soon on account of the big cliched American parties in the L2 ballroom that go till like 7am and leave you all tweaked out and Teutophilic and sick. Also I left my camera charger in Australia and haven't gotten around to buying a replacement, so there hasn't been all that much to post besides boring text. On the plus side i've managed to spend less than $20 per day (excluding the hotel). Not bad for Midtown. In a few days i'll be heading to Brooklyn to stay with my friend John for a week or so. He's taking some time off work for 'Wrestlemania week', which he has designated a national holiday.
"I'm not sure if I'm going to be chartering a limo with some fellow wrestling fans just yet, but it's a big possibility"
Since Wrestlemania only lasts 1 day (April 7), i'm wondering how he's going to spend a week celebrating it.

Didn't sleep a wink last night due to jetlag. Watched the first season of Baccano instead. Trippy show to watch in a sleep-deprived state. When the sun came up I walked around Central Park. Here is a photo I took before my camera ran out of battery.

Just landed at LAX. Connecting flight to JFK delayed an hour.
Slept most of the flight thanks to Mr. Daniel Skelly MD.
Planes have coat closets.
